Katia’s Tux Paint Demo at SCALE, The Southern California Linux Expo

Today is a big day for Katia!  She’ll be giving a presentation on Tux Paint at the Southern California Linux Expo, better known as SCALE.

Last night, Katia and I went over the presentation to practice for her delivery.  It was fun seeing her ideas come to life from draft to actual presentation.  Take a look at the pictures below and see for yourself! :)

Here’s the rough draft of the first slide:

The cover page rough draft.

As you can see, we had some trouble agreeing on a name that was fitting for the presentation.

And here’s the finished work:

The final prodcut: The Magical World of Tux Paint.

We’ll follow up later to let you know how everything went!

LAST DAY OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!

Katia says:

This last day of elementary school was superb!  I sang at the actual promotion and after that, the class and I had cake!  It was delicious.

When school was over (fear!), we had a water party at my after school program.  I was soaked throwing water balloons at boys and squirting people with water guns.  Then my friend’s mom picked me up from school and we went to another party.  It was a pool party so I went swimming.  It was totally fun.

In middle school, I’m looking forward to being able to walk to and back from school.  What I will dread is those mean older kids.  I’ll miss my awesome teachers from 5th grade.

Good by elementary school!!!

My dad made a special lunch bag for the last day of school.

Katia’s Letter to Erin Hunter

Dear Erin Hunter,

Hi! My name is Katia and I am 10 years old. For a class project, we are writing letters to famous people or companies. I choose to write to you because I love your Warriors books. They are packed with battles, confusing love scenes, and tragic deaths. Your writing is very descriptive and its easy for me to form pictures in my head. My favorite character is Squirelflight. She is a great warrior and a trust worthy companion. But she can have an attitude!

In my free time I imagine myself in the warrior world as Wildtalon, a muscular Shadow Clan cat. Wildtalon, is a white she-cat with brown and orange stripes. She is a quick runner and the best hunter in Shadow Clan. Wildtalon also wants to be a deputy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. It would make me very happy if you wrote back.

The Skateboard Dragon

Here’s another dragon! This one is by Katia. She did her own impression of the dragon from the bottom of her skateboard. Maybe we’ll have to post that picture too so you can see the similarities. Enjoy!

Oh, the picture looks kinda funky in the middle because Katia drew it on two 8″ x 11.5″ sheet of paper. We scanned the pages in and tried to line them up to make one big picture. It didn’t come out exactly perfect but it still looks good!

The Pick Up Stix Dragon

Michael (AKA Katia’s Dad) says:  “Tonight Katia, Shania, Nicole, and I all went to have dinner at Pick Up Stix.  The food was pretty good!  I’ll be doing a review on my website pretty soon.  Katia and Shania really liked the teryaki chicken that came in the kid’s meal.  Neither one of them ate the tangerines though!  I wish they would have had a little bit of fruit though, because after dinner they had brownies and went a little bit crazy”

“Anyway, we got a bag to put all of our boxed up leftovers in and the bag had a picture of the Pick Up Stix dragon on it.  Katia thought he was cute and wanted to keep the bag. Later on she asked me to draw the dragon on her lunch bag.  What do you think!?”

More Pictures from Friends
